Holzer Cardiovascular Institute History

The Holzer Cardiovascular Institute was established as a joint venture between Holzer Medical Center and Holzer Clinic in 2001. Dr. Michael Englund and his staff had been running a successful cath lab for over a year and plans were made to develop the lab into a "comprehensive heart center." In 2004, an open heart team was added to the components and soon after that stenting and angioplasties were made available "in-house."

In 2005, HCI brought the Mended Hearts program to our "Heart Team." Mended Hearts is a volunteer based national organization affiliated with the American Heart Association. Each member has either been an open heart patient themselves or a supporting spouse to an open heart patient. This has proven to be exceptionally beneficial to patients in their time of recovery, and even more helpful to the family during the "waiting time" that the patient is in surgery. The Institute plans to form their own Chapter of mended Hearts at Holzer.
